2016 Overview

Intermediate championship
The season kicked off with our first game in Hogan Park in Moate against Tang. The game was tightly fought from both sides however in the last ten minutes we relinquished strength. We met St. Mary’s Rochfortbridge in Shandonagh. St. Mary’s over powered us from the get go and we were left trailing at half time. After half time there was a surge from the Ballymore side, unfortunately this was not sustained in order to regain any hold over the game. Following this disappointing encounter we met Shandonagh in Milltown. Our luck didn’t change. In fact, this match made us sit up and think what was ahead for the rest of the championship. Having displayed a very disjointed match in Milltown to Shandonagh we went on to meet Milltown in Shandonagh. Though we didn’t come away with a win, we definitely displayed a more united front& an improvement was evident. We were unfortunate with the number of wides and Milltown maximised their chances with accurate scores. A tumultuous season was coming to an end as we knew we had to get a win to avoid a relegation play off. Ballymore had a great start against Bun. This was the best showing of the group games so far. Though the atmosphere was tense, Ballymore had a belief and displayed discipline in the face of pressure. However, Bunbrosna came back into the game with a goal before half time. We controlled most of the second half and we lived to regret some of our scoring chances. Bun charged on to equalise the game. This was as devastating as a loss as they had one more point than us. The full time whistle brought an array of emotions. The season was to be dragged out to a relegation play off in Tubberclare under lights against Ballynacargy. There was a lot of support there for Ballymore on the night but the tension was evident throughout the game. The game commenced with scores from Ballymore and we were leading at half time. Yet, this lead was not sustained in the second half. Ballynacargy came out. This game is the epitomy of what Ballymore is: Determination, heart and passion. This was displayed in spades and if we had seen this sooner in the season we may not have been in the relegation play off. Everyone’s contribution on the field and on the side-lines was warranted and valued in this win. We have learnt lessons from a stormy season but it will stand to us as we prepare for 2017.
It was noted from the management that 31 players played at this intermediate level. This is a huge rate of attrition over the course of a championship year considering how the season progressed.

Intermediate Cup
We had one game against Tubberclare which we lost.

Division 2
Thankfully we have maintained our healthy position in division 2.

Division 5
We couldn’t field in one game and we have one game left which leaves us in a position for promotion based on a win.

Junior B Championship
This was not a good year and we struggled at times to field a team. We played three games, lost two and won one. We are knocked out of the championship at this stage.
