2010 Overview

Intermediate Campaign

We played 5 scheduled fixtures this season winning just the one match against Ballinagore in Shandonagh. As a direct result of this win we managed to maintain our Intermediate status on the ‘head to head’ rule despite finishing at the bottom of our group.

Division 2

Our overall performance here was only slightly better as we managed 2 wins and 2 draws from 9 matches. The season went right to the wire as we needed to win both of the last 2 matches and by a good margin to stay in touch with Milltownpass. A win over CFCW in the last game of the season was not enough as we were relegated for having scored fewer points overall.

Junior

The junior side had a much better season and were challenging for the Junior B Championship yet again taking 3 wins and a draw from 5 matches and securing a quarter final place against Tubberclair. On a cold night in late October the side battled well and at the final whistle it look to all like Ballymore would be moving into the semi finals only to have this dashed by the referee who had the score line level and took the match into extra time. We finally went down to our neighbours by 4 points.

Division 5

The season saw a similar set of performances in Division 5 as well with the team securing 2 wins from the 5 matches played and ending the year in mid-table.

Fé 21 Championship

The club were delighted once again this year to compete in the under 21 championship as Ballymore GAA. On the field we had a very impressive 11 point win over neighbours Tubberclair in the preliminary round but went down to CFCW in the first round proper.

Underage

The club had a strong representation at all age levels this year.

The minor team had a disappointing championship but performed well in the Division 3 reaching the final where they lost by the slimmest of margins to Tubberclair.

The under 16’s are going though a development phase at the moment and are the one group where we do lack depth having said that they managed to reach a quarter final.

Under 14’s again performed well fulfilling all fixtures and missed out at the end of the season by just a few points.

The under 12’s were the clubs best underage performers they topped their group in the first phase going undefeated and only lost one match all season. They are due to play in a final against St Marys but due to time pressures and the weather this remains unscheduled.

The under 10’s and under 8’s remains a strong sector for the club with both age group competing in several tournaments around the county and at Cusack Park.

Thank you to all at the Milltown for their help and support throughout the year. Special thanks also to Denis O’Roarke, Martin Ryan, Bernie Maxwell, John Meares, Kevin McLoughlin, Brian McCabe, Joe Kincaid & Damien Scally and of course to parents who act as a taxi service and supporters during the year.

Schools

The schools team have been undefeated all year in their group and are awaiting a much anticipated final match against Clonbunny which is due to be played shortly. Yet again Declan Rooney has given so much of his time and energy to steer the team well and has been ably supported by Declan Claffey from the school, Brian McCabe, Kevin McLoughlin and John Meares. Special thanks also to John Lennon who refereed all matches played.

Scór

2010 was yet another good year for the club. We hosted both the county semi final and final with Ballymore’s figure dancers joining the Figure dancers from Fr Daltons and their recitation group in the county finals unfortunately we fell short on the night.
We were also due to host the Leinster semi final and final but these have now been put back to 2011 due to the adverse weather conditions. On behalf of the club I would like to thank Rose Longworth and her team once again for all their hard work during the year. A special thank you also to those members who helped with car parking etc at the events.

Fr Daltons

Having built on their Junior success of 2008 our sister club upset the form table by getting through to this years Intermediate final where they played Devin in an absolute thriller in Mullingar. Despite trailing by 7 points half way through the second half Fr Daltons staged a great comeback scoring 6 unanswered points to miss out by the closets of margins. Congratulations to all involved with the club on a great season.
